Victorian Salver
Salver Claimed by Edwards
Caroline Edwards of Barwon Heads Golf Club has taken this year's Victorian Salver title at Royal Melbourne Golf Club with a Gross Stroke score of 173. Edwards lead the field from round one and finished seven strokes ahead of her nearest rival Judy Bull from Commonwealth GC who had a score of 180.
Round two of the Victorian Salver was played on the West course following behind Victorian Amateur Champion finalists Stacey Keating and Jo Charlton. In better weather conditions than the previous day, the players found the shorter west course slightly more favourable to their playing style with many completing the round with a lower score compared to round one's results.
Caroline Edwards finished in top position after completion of round one with a gross score of 88, however she was not alone on the scoreboard with a number of competitors sitting just below who could easily take the lead in round two. Edwards however, with her accurate putts on the green and well positioned fairway shots never looked like been out of contention for the title. Sailing through round two with ease she managed to better her score from round one by three strokes and provide a lead that could not be meet by other competitors.
Thank you to all players who attended this year's Salver tournament, despite a rather 'wet' start in round one, overall the tournament proved to be an enjoyable one with smiles all around. Special thanks to Royal Melbourne Golf Club and staff for their assistance of the week and to the Match Committee Members who ensured all went smoothly.

Salver Players Show Great Skill
Today just over sixty players from the Victorian Salver descended on the east course of Royal Melbourne Golf Club with the first tee off at 8.00am. Players followed the Victorian Amateur Championship semi-finalists in heavy rain which settled in early. The Salver players however were full of bright spirit and smiles all around.
The women whilst finding the greens difficult to negotiateplayed through the holes at a relatively good pace given the weather conditions and difficulty of the pin placements. Ruth Buckstein of Latrobe had no troubles on the 13th hole, almost scoring a hole in one with the ball resting just on the lip of the hole (pictured below).
As the rain eased the first groups started to come into dry themselves off and have a much deserved hot drink. Steadily the remainder of the field started coming off the course with scores starting to register on the scoreboard and players able to see who was leading the field.
At the completion of round one, Caroline Edwards a late entrant into the Salver tournament, finished on a gross score of 88. However Edwards was not isolated on the scoreboard, with the next sixteen players all recording a gross score within 10 strokes of the leader and the rest of the field not too far behind.
Tomorrow the Salver players will address the ball once more this time on the west course. Please see below for the top five players in the Gross and Nett respectively.
