Victorian Par 3 Championship

2011 Results

Day 2 - Wednesday June 8

Jess Pickwick (Kilmore GC) backed up her good performance from yesterday with a gross score of 64 making her the new Victorian Par 3 Champion. On a day when scores reflected the more difficult conditions, Jess was only clear by 2 shots of her closest rival and defending champion Catherine Odgers in the overall 36 hole competition!

The tournament dinner, organised by the Murray Downs Golf Club Women’s Committee, was a lot of fun and a great way to finish the first day of the event. Lovely food, a few wines and lots of laughs was a fantastic way to relax after a ‘stressful’ day on the course!

Wednesday began with a nice 'wrap' in the local newspaper about the tournament, a cup of coffee at registration and an amazing blue sky!  However, with the temperature as low as 2 degrees, it was definitely a bit hard to get the bodies going. Players completed the round in just over 3 ½ hrs but with slightly windier conditions it was harder to hit greens in regulation.

Barbara Cadd, a true local from Murray Downs, played very consistently and made her club proud by winning the Best 36 gross in the Division B (hcp 22-36). Some other good performances came from Gina Brown and Sheila Oxley, A and B divisions respectively, making them the winners of the overall 36 nett event in their categories. Well done!

As usual, the support from the golf club, its Women’s Committee and members, ground staff, office and bar staff was terrific and made running the tournament very easy. Golf Victoria would like to thank Murray Downs GC, all the players and volunteers for another great tournament!

Article Day 2

Jessica Pickwick - 2011 Champion

Day 1 - Tuesday June 7

The players were challenged by this interesting Par 3 layout. Many bunkers and water hazards protected the greens and, on some holes, a simple par was an excellent result. The Murray Downs Women's Committee supported all the  players, providing hot coffee to keep them warm in the chilly conditions. Local media also followed the champioship closely throughout the day.

Defending champion Catherine Odgers (Howlong GC - hcp 4) was also challenged by her friend Jessica Pickwick (Kilmore GC - hcp 7). They ended the day sharing a new Par 3 course record of 61.

In the nett results, Division A is led by Sue Parsons (Mansfield GC - hcp 21) who had a nett 48. In Division B the leader is  Marion Craig (Melton Valley – hcp 29) with 45 nett! Great results, but with 18 more holes everything is still up for grabs! One of the stars of the day was 11 y.o Jessica Scapin (Kyabram Parkland GC - hcp 20) with a good nett result of 51. Jessica recently won the A Grade Champiosnhip at her home club becoming one of the youngest ever club champions in Victoria.
