Victorian Par 3 Championship

Odgers Performs at Par 3 to retain Championship Trophy

Catherine Odgers (Wodonga GC) has again taken the title for the Par 3 Championship with a total score of 116, two strokes ahead of her nearest rival Sienna Lambert from Cohuna GC. Odgers who walked away with the prestigious title last year, was fourth off the pace following completion of round one at the Buninyong golf course. However today she began strongly on the fairways, showing the field that a winning streak for the event was possible.

The rest of the field proved to be worthy opponents with players displaying some amazing birdies and putts on the greens. With the top players within six strokes of each other it was still anyone’s guess as to whom would walk away as Champion. Whilst lambert proved to be in contention, Odgers managed to slip ahead of the field to receive the Par 3 Championship trophy.

Whilst frost delayed the begining of play for the AM field this morning, on the whole the tournament ran very successfully with all participants enjoying themselves. A tournament dinner last night at the club provided a great opportunity for players to mingle with each other and meet others who travel the WGV tournament circle.

A big thank you must be extended  to Buninyong Golf Club for their efforts prior to and during the tournament. Special thanks to Lady's Captain Vera Lund, Lady's President Helen Hovey and all other Buninyong staff and members who assisted on the day, your help does not go unnoticed.

Victorian Par 3 Championships Start with a Bang!

Today saw the start of the Victorian Par 3 Championships hosted at the stunning Buninyong Golf Club. With 90 competitors entered, the women played in two fields - morning and afternoon. Whilst the morning field had to contend with a layer of frost covering the fairways, the players teed off for their  first 18 hole round without much disturbance. The afternoon field had much better weather conditions to play in with the sun starting to show itself and only a mild winter chill, creating an idyllic winter atmosphere.

Players put on an amazing performance at the course, displaying their remarkable golfing talents yet again. Catherine Odgers, last year's Par 3 Champion, played once more to defend her title and finished with a score of 57 to show that she was keen to create a winning streak.

However this year the Par 3 Championship is being tightly contested with a number of players fighting for top spot. Currently Helen Pascoe from Buninyong GC is leading the field, using her home club advantage to finish with a score of 53 (H'Cap 7). Other top players include;

Heather Harley (Kooringal GC) Score 55 (H'Cap 7)
Catherine Odgers (Wodonga GC) Score 57 (H'Cap 2)
Sienna Lambert (Cohuna GC) Score 60 (H'Cap 2)
Nikki Prato (Buninyong GC) Score 60 (H'Cap 14)
