Victorian Foursomes Championship

Wet, Windy and Wild - Foursome Pairs Play for Championship

This year Lauren Sinclair from Heidelberg GC and Jessica Parker (Woodlands GC) have taken the title of Victorian Foursomes Champions. The pair maintained consistency on the scoreboard throughout the 36 hole round at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Against extreme weather conditions of icy wind and heavy rain the foursome’s pair played beautifully with long strokes on the fairways and a sharp short game.

With an early tee off time the players presented themselves at Royal Melbourne golf club bright, early and full of high spirits.  Whilst the weather was against us from the start, a chilly southerly wind making even those in the warmest of jackets frozen, players teed off without disruption. The women made their way round the course with ease and before long the first 18 hole scores were tallied.

Courtney Gay & Grace Lennon lead the field at the half-way mark with a gross of 77, one stroke ahead of Parker and Sinclair. With a quick bit to eat the players went back on the fairway to begin round two of the championship. Our cold wind had been replaced by heavy rain making the going slow for players, with one of the biggest challenges for some was finding the 10th tee! Still the 41 pairs continued playing with a smile across their face and making light of a very challenging situation.

Around three o'clock the players started to roll in- soaking wet, very cold but overall immensely happy at their efforts throughout the day. Unfortunately there could only be one pair that walked away with the Foursomes Championship trophy with Sinclair and Parker maintaining consistency on the scoreboard and taking the covenant title, nine strokes ahead of their nearest rival C. Bryant (Yarra Yarra) and M. Hui (Sorrento).

Well done to all players for their effort throughout the day and for making the Foursomes such an enjoyable championship event. Special thanks to all the staff at Royal Melbourne for their help on the day and Committee Members Helen Brown, Ros Warburton and City Vice President Lee Wills.

Good luck to all players also entered in the Victorian Amateur and Salver!
