Great performance!
11 July 2011
There was nothing easy about this year’s Foursomes Championship, but Bianca Ling and Su-Hyun Oh from Kingswood GC won it easily with scores of 77 both days! Congratulations to them and all the rest of the players whose participation, despite the difficult weather conditions, made this championship a success!
The weather conditions were much calmer for the championship’s second round, but it was still very cold for the early starters. The golf course looked fantastic in the morning light and the players began their day in some misty rain.
Even though the scoring conditions improved dramatically the scores as such didn’t...perhaps the players were a bit worn out after such a tough day yesterday or perhaps the golf course with its tricky greens and plenty of bunkers won the battle overall!
Bianca Ling and Su-Hyun Oh from Kingswood GC continued their strong performance having exactly the same score as Round 1.They managed to win the Championship 10 shots ahead of their closest competitors, Jo Charlton (Metropolitan GC) and Rachel Korevaar (Yarra Yarra GC). Jo & Rachel posted the best score of the day with 75. While Bianca and Su-Hyun took care of yesterday’s trophies, this great score allowed Jo and Rachel to pretty much clean up everything else! They were runners up for the championship (164 gross) on a count back over Sue Wooster (Victoria GC) and Elisa Orr (Commonwealth GC), had the best nett for the day with 72.5, and claimed best 36 holes nett on a count back over Heather Gellatly and Kerry Henningsen form Huntingdale GC.
Despite the weather conditions, this championship was enjoyed by the players who appreciated the opportunity to catch up with friends and play a fantastic golf course. A big thank you to Victoria Golf Club and all its staff for hosting this event and making Golf Victoria’s job so much easier. Thank you also to all the volunteers who kindly donated their time to run this tournament so smoothly.
Another year, another weather challenge at the Foursomes Championship
Let's start by recognising an amazing effort from the players who faced attrocious weather conditions with constant rain and wind all day long. Bianca Ling (hcp 4) and her partner Su Huyn Oh (hcp +3) were, however, unflapable to say the least! Using the weather as an 'excuse' to post a poor score was not in their plans...they finished their 18 holes with an amazing score of 77 gross! Sue Wooster (hcp 1) and Elisa Orr (hcp1) are following them closely only 1 shot behind. Michelle Hui (hcp 2) and Corinna Bryantt (hcp 2) are nicely placed 3 shots behind the leading pair. Great effort by all these players!
Foursomes is indeed a very challenging format, but some couples still managed to complement and support each other well on the course today. Even though the top two gross scores are also leading the nett category, they may have some competition in this area as well! Heather Gellatly (7) and Kerry Henningsen (9) as well as Heather Harley (8) and Helen Leech (9) finsihed their rounds with scores of 77 and 77.5 nett respectively. Well done!
Another challenging day awaits for these tough participants tomorrow with the forecast similar to today. Let's hope everyone has a good rest, dries their gear and recharges batteries for the last 18 holes of this champioship.
