Fisher Takes Victorian Veteran's Championship Title
Thursday 10 June, 2010
Ros Fisher from Gosnells Golf Club (Western Australia) has taken out this year’s Victorian Veterans Championship. Playing off a handicap of 2, Fisher lead the field from day one shooting scores of 80 and 81 for day one and two respectively. Finishing on top with the best 36 hole gross score, Fisher went into the qualifying round one stroke ahead and followed through to defeat Dale Stuart 7/5.

Dale Stuart from Seymour Golf Club who qualified seventh had a remarkable run this tournament defeating last year’s Champion Anna Mason (Kew GC), proceeding on to the semi-final to defeat Judy Kruger (Yarrawonga GC).
Following gruelling qualifying and semi-final rounds in which both competitors found themselves playing in wet and windy conditions, today saw Fisher and Stuart teeing off in more appealing weather conditions. With a large number of spectators eagerly watching on, play commenced at Trentham Golf Club.
From the first tee it could easily be seen that Fisher was here to win, displaying a tidy game around the greens and an amazing ability to hit a long ball down the fairways. Stuart who equally possessed a great short game provided strong competition on the greens, however with Fisher's long drive it was difficult for Stuart to get ahead.
Fisher took the lead early and never looked back defeating Stuart 7/5. The game was played with the best of spirits and was watched by a number of players and spectators.
Special thanks to the members of Trentham Golf Club for providing their course for the past four days. Sincere thanks also to Ladies Captain Eileen Dutton, Ladies President Veronica Maher, committee member Mary Campbell and the many others who assisted prior to and during the tournament. Your contribution is invaluable.

Day Three of the Victorian Veteran's - a knockout!
In punishing cold and wet conditions, the quarter and semi-final matches of the Victorian Veteran's Championship were played at Trentham Golf Course today.
Quarter Finals
Teeing off in the morning, the quarter finals consisted of eight players who had acquired the best 36 hole gross scores from the previous two days.
Ros Fisher from the Gosnells GC in West Australia showed that she was more than competent playing in wet weather conditions when she defeated Jay Magee from Sunshine Golf Club. As the two players battled it out in the hope of proceeding to the semi-final, the players joked about the irony of having a player from 'Sunshine' in such terrible weather conditions.
The second pair teeing off consisted of Ruth Yelland, formally of Kyneton GC and now a member of Cairns GC in Queensland, playing against former club member Denise Murphy (Kyneton). The competition between the pair was always kept friendly and sociable as the two competitors were "old" sparing players however there could only be one winner with Yelland walking away with the win 4/3.
Third group to tee off was Dale Stuart (Seymour GC) and 2009 Veteran's Champion Anna Mason (Kew GC). Playing a tight match Dale eventually managed to win on the 18th hole despite last year’s winner Anna Mason playing some marvellous shots.
Final pair to play off in the morning was Judy Kruger of Yarrawonga and Border GC and Glenda Marshall (Beechworth GC). Whilst both players showed remarkable talent on the fairways, Kruger proved to be too strong for Marshall winning 7/6.
Semi Finals
Even with the afternoon weather worsening as the day continued, the rain and cold breeze could not diminish the excitement surrounding the semi-finals. The four players graced the fairways yet again, with both matches tightly contested and the lead changing frequently.
Ros Fisher defeated Ruth Yelland on the 17th hole 2/1, whilst Dale Stuart held her nerve to win with a birdie on the 19th hole.
This spectacular play was watched on by a number of spectators who braved the elements and were rewarded with nail biting matches.
Tomorrow will see Ros Fisher playing off against Dale Stuart which will prove to be a truly exciting and enjoyable game.

Anna played Tocumwal's Sue Pappas in the 18 hole final but needed just 13 holes to put away her opponent, winning convincingly with a 6/5 margin.
"Sue missed a couple of putts but birdied the 6th and 10th holes to stay in touch," Anna added.

Beechworth's Glenda Marshall won the 55-59 years final comfortably against Yarrawonga and Border's Anna Castles 5/4.
Kew Golf Club picked up its second title of the week when Louise Hall defeated Commercial Golf Resort's Billie Carden to win the 60-64 years Veterans Division.
