About

WGV runs two Country Tournaments per year across regional Victoria in Autumn and Spring. The events are the most popular on the WGV Calendar, attracting fields of anywhere between 180 - 380 players.

The Country Tournaments are open to amateur players who hold a current Australian women's handicap at an affiliated Club. Unlike the WGV Country Championship, players do not need to be a member of a Club located in one of WGV's country districts to enter the Country Tournaments.

Both the Autumn and Spring Country Tournaments are popular events and if you wish to enter it is advised you get your entries in early as the fields are likely to reach capacity.

Due to the high volume of entries and the large number of entries balloted out, WGV has taken steps to provide all entrants the opportunity to play by seeking to play the Tournament over two courses when entries demand.

Spring Country Tournament

Format

Both the Autumn and Spring Country Tournaments are played over two rounds of stroke.

Trophies

Best 36 Hole Gross - Ruby McKenzie Trophy

The Scratch trophy at the Country Tournaments is named after Ruby McKenzie in recognition for her contribution to women's golf. Ruby McKenzie was a great country golfer, Victorian Ladies Golf Union (VLGU) Councillor and VLGU representative on the Australian Golf Council from 1928 until her death.

Following her death, her Estate was to be held in trust for the lifetime of a sister and then to the VGLU with the express purpose of buying suitable accommodation from which to administer golf. WGV's office in Elsternwick was purchased from this Estate of the late Ruby McKenzie.

Best 36 Hole Nett - Vi Teesdale Trophy

Vi Teesdale was dedicated to women's golf as a player, Captain and President of Huntingdale GC and a VLGU delegate and President. Mrs Teesdale gained recognition not only with women's golf but also with the Victorian Golf Association as a 'Rules Expert'.

It was the wish of State Council to name the handicap trophy at the Country Tournaments in her honour.
