Country Teams' Matches
2011 Results
Division 1 consisted of only 4 districts this year. After the 2 initial rounds, South Western District was leading by only ½ game over North Eastern with 6 match points each. Having to face each other in the final was exciting as everything was up for grabs. At the half way mark things were already looking pretty good for North Eastern with 6 matches in their favour. They maintained their strong lead through the second nine. In the end they were too strong for their opposition and won the Alice Coltman Cup for the third time is as many years.
With Division 2 & 3, having 5 teams each, the competition was more fierce. In Division 2, Bendigo had 3 strong wins to set themselves as favourites heading toward the last round. East Gippsland was running second and, having to face Bendigo in this final round, a win was a must. After 9 holes the match was pretty even but Bendigo proved their dominance and, after not losing one single match during the whole competition, they also won today's match 5 / 2. They claimed the #1 spot and more importantly win promotion to Division 1 for 2012. This is a great achievement after also being promoted from Division 3 in 2010.
Division 3, North Western and West Gippsland were tied with 6 match points each, but North Western had the advantage by 2 game points. Once again, these two teams made their last match a real final - the result would determine the winner of the division. The match couldn't be closer but North Western came home with a 4 and 3 win to finish with a total of 8 match points and claim the title.
Congratulations not only to the winning teams but to all the Districts for their organisation and participation. This is a prestigious competition that, over 40 years, has seen most of the state's elite players proudly representing their district. Many thanks to all the golf clubs that kindly supported Country Teams – Northern, Kooringal, Sunshine, Medway and Melton Valley Golf Clubs. Finally, a big thank you to the volunteers who donated their time to help Golf Victoria run this competition successfully. We are sure the 2012 Country Team Matches will be as eagerly anticipated and keenly fought as always - players are already looking forward to that!

About
The Country Teams' Matches is a three day tournament played across various Metropolitan Clubs. The teams are selected from players in each of the 15 Country Districts across Victoria. The matches are played in three divisions with promotion and relegation.
The winning team from each Division will be presented with the "Alice L. Coltman Cups" which were donated by the late Mrs O.H. Coltman. The Division 3 Cup was donated by Mrs L. Carstairs.
