Business Women's Championship
2011 Results
A small group of women participated in this Championship. Whilst conditions were favourable and the course free of bunker, players struggled to handle the challenging greens. Saturday's best scores were Rebecca Thomas (Leongatha GC) who posted an 84 gross while Fiona Law (The National GC) posted the best nett for the day with a 72 off a handicap of 15. Players who did well in the Salver division were Marion Craig (Melton Valley GC) - 40 points, Rosalie Roberts (Castlemaine GC) – 39 points and Sandi Dent (The National GC) - 38 points.
Sunday was a much colder with strong winds but still presented good golf weather for players. In the Championship Division, Rebecca Thomas, continued her steady performance and with another 84 for a total of 168 off the stick, took the 2011 title very comfortably. Congratulations, Bec! Serrin Cooper, a Golf Victoria staff member and Tambo Valley member, made her return to competitive golf after being absent for few years…and the form was still there! Serrin, was the Runner Up with a total of 171. Well done! The 36 holes best nett was taken by Fiona Law from The National GC who, used to the wind, managed the conditions very well and backed up her good first round to finish with a total of 148 nett.
The Salver went to Castlemaine GC, with local, Rosalie Roberts taking the plate with scores of 39 and 37 points, a total of 76. Second place was decided on a count back, with Nola Geary (Women's Golf Network) finishing ahead of Florence Meyer (Lancefield GC) with a total of 71 stableford points. Great effort!
Players and Golf Victoria staff would like to extend a big, big thank you to Castlemaine Golf Club and all the members who volunteered their time to make this championship possible. Special thanks to Captain Peter Williams and the women's committee members for looking after all of us so well and making us feel at home. Thank you also to Helen Brown, a Golf Victoria volunteer, who kindly donated her time from Friday to Sunday to assist with events across the weekend. These events couldn't be run without their help.
Next year this championship will be played at Yarram GC in the Gippsland District. Let's hope we get to see many more players competing for this prestigious title!

About
The Business Women's Championship is designed to give women who work full time or part time, or study at tertiary level, a chance to play in a State level Championship. This is the most prestigious event on the Business Women's calendar, as it is a recognised State Championship.
Each year the Business Women's Championship has attracted large numbers of women. With more women working full time this tournament has become a great success.
The competition has been running since 1997 with Meredith Tricks of Peninsula Country Club winning the trophy three times.
