Rules
Australian golf is governed by the National Sporting Organisation, Golf Australia. It is the responsibility of Golf Australia to govern the sport in line with the Rules of Golf, as set out by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is golf's world rules and development body and organizer of The Open Championship. It operates with the consent of more than 130 national and international, amateur and professional organisations, from over 120 countries and on behalf of an estimated 30 million golfers in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific and The Americas (outside the USA and Mexico). The United States Golf Association (USGA) is the game's governing body in the United States and Mexico.
As our game is self-regulating, there are currently 34 Rules of Golf, which exist to ensure our game is played in equity and fairness to all competitors. The Rules of Golf, and decisions on the Rules of Amateur Status provide a comprehensive set of rules which golfers abide by when playing their round. In addition, the Decisions on the Rules of Golf 2008-2009 provides an even more comprehensive guide to the Rules of Golf. You can purchase copies of Decisions on the Rules of Golf 2008-2009 and the Decisions on the Rules of Amateur Status from WGV. Complimentary copies of the Rules of Golf can be obtained from your golf club or Women's Golf Victoria.
As the Governing Body, Golf Australia communicates any changes, amendments and updates to the Rules of Golf and Rules of Amateur Status. You can view the most up to date rules by clicking here.
